💪🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ 7th Grade Fitness Fun! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💪

Mr. Wulf, Mr. Dutton, and Mrs. Trofholz challenged our 7th graders with the 200 Heart Rate Club today! Students completed a 14-station workout with 2 running laps between each station for 20 minutes.

At the halfway point, students checked their heart rates to see if they could reach the 200 Club. They had two chances during the workout to hit the goal. ✅ If they made it, they got to sign their name on the board with their number AND earn a Discoverer Buck!

Even if they didn’t make it, the workout was still a great way to push themselves and have fun. 💯💥

✨Let's welcome Mrs. Moore to CMS✨
She is a 6th-grade reading teacher. She attended Western Governor’s University and got her degree in Elementary Education K–8. Before she came to CMS, she was a 3rd grade teacher. Mrs. Moore decided to become a teacher because she wanted to make a difference in students’ lives. She said that the best part of becoming a teacher is that she loves building relationships and having students come and tell her stories. Her favorite hobby is spending time with her daughter. She said that if she could have a superpower, she would want to see people's true intentions and know what they are thinking.

🎨✨ Our 8th grade Digital Media students have been busy creating! ✨🎨

This quarter, students learned how to use editing tools to combine multiple images into one design, add text and graphics to communicate ideas, blend or reflect images, and even remove backgrounds to layer photos together.

They also completed Canva’s Graphic Design Essentials Course, gaining experience with the fundamentals of design—elements, principles, typography, color theory, and mood boards.

Using these new skills, students created amazing projects that showcase their creativity while demonstrating mastery of the NE K–12 Digital Media state standard: “Use painting/drawing tools and other applications to create and edit work.”

We are so proud of their hard work and creativity! 👏💻

🇺🇸 Remembering 9/11 🇺🇸

Today, several teachers took time to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

📚 In Ms. Hiebner’s social studies class, students watched a short video about the events of 9/11 and then completed a KWL chart to share what they knew, what they wanted to learn, and what they discovered.

🎶 In Ms. Bourek-Hoyt’s class, students listened to and sang “American Tears,” a tribute song written in honor of 9/11. The song remembers the lives lost, thanks first responders and military members, and reminds us all of the importance of empathy and kindness.

Meet the new crew! Mrs. VandenBos went to the University of South Dakota and got her degree in Fine Arts and Photography. Before she came to CMS, she taught K-12 Art in Randolph, Nebraska. She loves working with her students on creating their ideas in her art class. She is still currently creating art for exhibitions. Her favorite thing to teach in class is printmaking. Her hidden talent is that she can ride horses! If she had to pick a theme song every time she walked in the room, it would be Just Keep Swimming from Finding Nemo.

Meet our new STEM Drafting teacher, Mr. McBride! You may also recognize him from the Robotics Club. He got his teaching degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and has taught at a few other schools, which included Golden Plains, Holton, and Topeka. Some interesting facts about Mr. McBride are: his favorite subject during school was science, it was his 3rd-grade teacher who inspired him to start teaching, his favorite dinosaur is the Giganotosaurus, and his favorite song is "Whispers in the Dark" by Skillet!

📏📐 In 6th grade math, students explored creative ways to measure their desks and tables using tools like rulers, sticky notes, index cards, textbooks—even their own hands! ✋📚 Groups experimented with perimeter, area, and height, then compared strategies and discussed why units of measure matter. 📝🔍 This hands-on investigation helped students see that measurement is more than “just length” and deepened their understanding of dimensions and area. ✨👏

Meet Ms. Shaiko! She teaches EL Math. Before coming to CMS, she taught for two years in California. While in California, she taught 3rd grade. She then taught for one year in Kansas. She went to Iowa State University and has a degree in elementary education. She likes her job now and wouldn't teach any other grade or class. Her favorite part about teaching is seeing a student grasp the information she has been teaching. Ms. Shaiko thinks that Wednesday is the best day of the week and that orange is the best color, so everyone should wear orange on Wednesdays. She likes to listen to Tate McRae and Olivia Dean on the way to school!

Meet Mr. Semin! He is our new 7th-grade social studies teacher who helps lead flag football and basketball. He loves sports and has a hidden passion for photography. Inspired by his teachers, his father, and his grandma, who read to him as a child, he became a teacher to inspire others. Fun fact: If he had to fight 100 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck, he would choose the duck!

✨ In Ms. Wallin’s 5th grade math class, students are exploring the world of 3D shapes! ✨
They are identifying, describing, and comparing three-dimensional figures by investigating nets of 3D objects. After learning the names and attributes of these figures, students used pull-up nets to create and describe each one. 🟦🔺📦

Please welcome Ms. Jennifer Dillon. Ms. Dillon is our new 5th Grade Reading teacher. She went to college at Wayne State and got her degree in early-child development. Before she became our reading teacher, she was a teacher at a daycare and a substitute teacher/para at CMS for a long time, and two years ago she signed a contract to become a teacher. She became a reading teacher here because she loves working with students this age, because she says that “This is the age that it's like they are still kids but they are still growing up.” If she could teach a different subject, she said she would teach PE because it's a class where the expectations are different and the students can be more active. She decided that if she could be any mythical being/creature she would be a witch. And if she could make a new school rule, she would put nap time in the middle of the day to give the students a rest period.
