Columbus Middle School

7th-grade students have been working on solving inequalities. One of their activities in Ms. Ebel’s class was to solve an inequality picture puzzle where the answer to a problem led them to solve another problem until they completed a 4x4 puzzle.

🔢✨ Reflect It!! ✨🔢 Our 7th-grade Accelerated Math students worked together in their learning teams to reflect points and shapes on the coordinate plane. 📝📐 This hands-on activity is part of their unit on transformations, and they’re mastering it like pros! 💪📊

🎨✨ Ms. Rasmussen & Ms. Terveen's 5th Grade Reading Class took a creative dive into the Renaissance during the kickoff of Unit 5! Students embraced their inner Michelangelo, painting "like" the Sistine Chapel ceiling. 🖌️🌟

6th Grade Activity Night will be Friday, January 31st from 5:30-7:30. Admission is $3.00 or a donation of 2 canned food items. Students must have their CMS ID to enter. Parents, if you are willing to help supervise or donate snacks, water, or pizza money please contact Ms. Nilson or Ms. Harms.

Keep up the GREAT work, Loida! ⭐️Esther is a hardworking and determined student. She even worked on Boost over Christmas break to keep improving. AMAZING! Esther always tries her best, even when things get challenging. She has a positive attitude that inspires others, making her a joy to have in class!

This week, 7th graders took part in a Feudal System Simulation in Social Studies. By the end, the king had most of the food, while the serfs were left with very little—even though they did all the work! Students had a great discussion about whether the system was fair and why the serfs put up with it.

🚀 Starting the new semester off strong! Silver 5 science kicked off their next unit on matter with an exciting hands-on activity. Students explored unknown substances and observed the fascinating reactions when they were mixed. Learning through discovery is the best way to dive into science! 🧪

✨Staff Spotlight✨ The staff member for today is Mr. Dostal! He is the 5th-grade assistant principal. He is new to our school and has worked here for about one quarter. Before working at CMS, he was a high school math teacher. He says his favorite thing about being an assistant principal is working with the kids outside of the classroom. Finally, his favorite thing to do outside of school is golf. Thanks for making Columbus Middle School great!

🛠️🎨 7th-grade drafting students have been putting their SolidWorks skills to the test! Using what they've learned about CAD software, they’ve designed small square mazes for a ball to roll through. The designs are then brought to life with our 3D printer. Great work combining creativity and engineering! 👏
