5th Grade
⭐️Cesar has an incredible way of looking at the world, bringing thoughtfulness and insight into everything he does. He quickly grasps new concepts in class and is always willing to go the extra mile in his learning. Cesar consistently steps up to help when needed and is a calm, steady presence for his peers, especially during more chaotic moments. ⭐️Our Maroon 5 Student of the Week works hard every day in Math. He always asks great questions and makes sure to turn his homework in on time. His dedication has paid off, as he recently joined our Math Jump Up Club due to his growth on his NSCAS test. He is quiet and friends with everyone. We know we can depend on him for anything. Congratulations, Gael! We are so glad you have been a part of our team this year.
On Wednesday, Ms. Vanden Bos and Ms. Graybill took 22 students to the Norfolk Art Center, where they got to tour the space and check out two awesome exhibits.
One of the coolest parts—Ms. Vanden Bos actually had artwork featured in one of the shows! She also talked with students about what it’s like to submit artwork to a show, walking them through the whole process from start to finish.
It was a great experience, and our students did a fantastic job representing us! 👏

Yesterday, a group of 8th graders had the opportunity to visit Wayne State College. The students participated in conversations about college readiness, went on a campus tour, ate lunch on campus, and met with different staff members to learn about various aspects of college life. Our students represented CMS very well and had a wonderful experience.
Congrats to all our McNair track athletes who competed on Monday at Pawnee! There were tons of students and schools in attendance, and we are proud of them all. The next track meet will take place on Monday in Schuyler, and we hope to see you there to cheer on our student-athletes. Go Discoverers!
On Friday the 17th, the 5th graders finally had their first activity night! They got to experience:

This week, the CMS 5th graders in Ms. Humphrey's class showcased A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare by participating in a “Freeze Frame Activity.” Students picked a scene from the story and created a depiction using only actions.
7th Grade

A group of our 8th grade girls went to the University of Nebraska Kearney on March 30th to learn about Latino history. With the theme of "Cultura es nuestro superpoder," translating to "Culture is our superpower," it was inspired by Latina culture. It is so heartwarming to watch how our students take interest in cultures outside of their own or learn more about their culture and their history. They learned many things such as self-discovery, the power of their last names, safety and wellness, academic growth, and finally digital literacy. Safe to say that they had a great time learning at the University of Nebraska Kearney.
5th Grade
⭐️Zayden does an outstanding job at school every day. He is friendly and respectful to both staff and peers, helping to create a positive environment in the classroom. What truly sets Zayden apart is his honesty and maturity—when he makes a mistake, he takes responsibility and learns from it. He is also a supportive friend, often helping others work through challenges and tough situations. Academically, Zayden puts forth strong effort and is always striving to improve, even when things are difficult. He is a fantastic addition to the Silver 5th-grade team. Keep being amazing, Zayden!
⭐️Our Maroon 5 Student of the Week is a focused and dependable student who consistently completes his work on time. Though he is naturally quiet, he is always on task and giving 100% effort. Thanks to Omaha Performing Arts and IATSE Local 42, students participated in a hands-on backstage workshop where they explored essential technical theater skills like rigging, ropes, lighting, audio, and stage management.
Even more exciting—after learning each skill, students put it all into action! They collaborated to produce a three-minute performance of Phantom of the Opera, calling cues, running lights and sound, and even operating the ropes to move curtains.
What an unforgettable experience that truly enhanced their knowledge and appreciation of technical theater!
