Our 5 Silver team students showcased their creativity and knowledge by building dioramas representing the four Earth Systems: Geosphere, Hydrosphere, Biosphere, and Atmosphere. 🌎✨ After presenting their work, the students voted on their favorites, and we are excited to announce the winning dioramas! 🏆👏 You can check out these incredible projects on display in the CMS Media Center or the 5th Grade Hall Display now through Christmas. 🎄 Don't miss the chance to see their hard work and innovation in action!

Whether it's helping others, participating in class, or showing kindness and responsibility, she is a role model for her peers. Always prepared and eager to contribute, she makes the classroom a better place for everyone. Keep up the fantastic work, Gracie. ⭐️Parker is a very polite and kind student. She is always ready to help others when they need it. Parker makes sure to finish her work on time and puts in her best effort. She is a great friend to have and makes our class a better place. We're lucky to have Parker with us!

✨Staff Spotlight✨ Mrs. Channer is a 6th grade social studies teacher at CMS. She is also the coach of our Cross Country team. She has been working at the school for 8 years now. Her favorite years to teach were the years she taught social studies. Before she wanted to be a Middle School teacher she wanted to be an Elementary teacher.🍎 In Middle School she did volleyball🏐and basketball.🏀 In HIgh School she focused more on marching band.🎺 Thanks for being an awesome teacher Mrs. Channer!

The CMS Student Council Food Drive ended today! CMS students donated 2,978 pounds of food to the Platte Valley Food Bank. Our Student Council took the food to the Food Bank and spent some time helping weigh and sort our donation!

✨Staff spotlight ✨ Ms. Ditter is the choir and vocal tech teacher at the middle school. She also leads the Talent Show and the Musical at CMS. She has been teaching for 17 years. Why did you decide to teach music? "I thought it was a powerful way to help people express themselves." What do you like about your job? "I like the students and the teachers." What do you like about doing the play? "I really love helping students discover that they are capable of amazing things."✨

7th-grade girl basketball had a great game against Seward. A, B, and C did lose but played hard! It was a great game to watch! Go, Discoverers!

On Friday, students used microscopes to explore the tiny world of cells! By looking closely at different specimens, they’re learning how to tell the difference between living and non-living things based on whether they have cells. So far we have looked at cardiac (heart) muscle, sand, water, and a leaf. Today they explored their own cheek cells. This is an exciting way to discover how small living things can truly be.

Join us at CMS on Friday, December 6 & 7, 2024 as they present A Christmas Carol. When: December 6th at 7:00 pm and December 7th at 2:00 pm Where: Columbus Middle School - Nantkes Cost: $5 for Adults, $3 for students K-12 (C-stamps will be accepted)

7th Grade Activity Night will be Friday, November 22nd from 5:30-7:30. Admission is $3.00 or a donation of 2 canned food items. Students must have their CMS ID to enter. Parents, if you are willing to help supervise or donate snacks, water, or pizza money please contact Ms. Nilson or Ms. Harms.

If Tristan misses school, he makes up work without being prompted. Tristan is a good example of how to be responsible, and he is nice and kind to everyone. She consistently completes her assignments on time, follows instructions carefully, and maintains a pleasant and polite demeanor. Congratulations, Emely! Keep up the great work!

She never hesitates to ask questions or seek out the resources she needs to succeed. Evelyn also does a fantastic job of ignoring distractions and focusing on school and supporting her classmates. Her positive attitude and willingness to learn really set her apart. ¡Sigue con el buen trabajo, Evelyn! ⭐️Our 6 Maroon Student of the Week is Vivian. Vivian is a quiet leader who always does her best. If she has a question, she doesn't hesitate to ask. Her peers know to come to her for any advice on schoolwork. She is always focused and kind to the people around her. Her positive attitude and willingness to continue learning is what sets her apart from her peers. Congrats Vivian!

He consistently shows up on time, is fully prepared for class, and always completes his tasks without hesitation. Efrain also impresses us with his talent for poetry, bringing creativity and insight to his writing. He knows how to balance responsibility with a sense of fun, making him a joy to have in the classroom.

✨Staff Spotlight✨Haley Urwin is a 8th grade LArts teacher. This is Ms. Urwin's first year working in the district. Before working at CMS she worked at Omaha North High School. She said her favorite lesson to teach is what we are doing in class right now which is reading and answering packet questions on the book Coraline. When I asked Ms. Urwin what her favorite book was she said she loved books so much she couldn't choose one but she said she really likes the gothic/fantasy genre.

Today is world kindness day. Spread kindness like confetti. It costs nothing and mean everything. Happy World Kindness Day!

🎨 Yesterday in 8th grade art! Students created Oreo creme relief art as part of our Printmaking unit. 🍪 While the materials were deliciously different, the methods closely resembled traditional printmaking techniques. Check out these unique, edible creations!
