Emerson Elementary School

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mrs. Brady, and her very eager beginning level students, hard at work practicing the very important skill of recognizing and counting money. They were able to practice counting and recognizing dollars and coins, and even did a worksheet similar to those used in the elementary classrooms. Also today, the advanced level students were able to utilize iPads to work on things such as word opposites, word suffixes, and jobs commonly held at night. Be sure to tune in tomorrow and Thursday to see what else these very enthusiastic students and Mrs. Brady will be learning.

CPS Summer School Information

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We will be focusing on Columbus' Family Literacy program and it's facilitator, Mrs. Brady. This is a fairly new program offered to parents/guardians in our school district who are interested in learning English. Tune in throughout the week to see all of the wonderful things Mrs. Brady and her students are learning!

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mr. Welch busy as a beaver! Whether he's changing light bulbs, vacuuming, dry mopping, or washing towels, he always has time to stop and help someone in need. Tune in next week as we visit another VIP here at Emerson.

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson.. It's everyone's favorite time of the school day, LUNCH! As you can see, it's also Mr. Welch's busiest time of the day. Whether its cleaning up spills, helping direct students where to sit, or taking out the trash, Mr. Welch is always there to lend a helping hand. On the conclusion of this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson.. When push comes to shove here at Emerson, Coach K. and the third and fourth graders know how to have loads of fun! Students got to experience what it's like to be an Olympian in the scooter cart version of bobsledding. One student was the pusher, two were the riders, and one had the important job of keeping the 'sled' on track. This concludes our episodes featuring Emerson's specialist teachers. Be sure to tune in next week as we feature Emerson's VIPs!

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We will begin the countdown to our season finale (aka the end of the school year) by featuring Emerson's VIPs. Kids grades K-6 join the CHS Track Team for their upcoming Youth Track Camp!

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Coach K. and the kindergarten, first, and second graders having too much fun on this dreary day! Kindergarteners got to practice the basic skills of the scooter boards, while the first and second graders were able to advance to scooter tag. As you can tell, I think they all had loads of fun! Be sure to tune in on Friday, as Coach promised he has something fun planned for our third and fourth graders.

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We will be featuring everyone's favorite special, Physical Education! Mr. Kucera has a great relationship with each student in the building, and they all look forward to being in his class each and every day. Be sure to tune in throughout the week to see what fun activities he has planned to get our Emerson students physically fit!

Concluding this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mrs. Dobbs, and a group of kindergarteners, learning about jobs during colonial times. Today, the students learned about blacksmiths. They were able to watch a short video about how a blacksmith makes nails, horse shoes, and other items out of iron. At the end of the lesson, students were able to design their own blacksmith shop sign! Be sure to tune in next week for the epic conclusion of Emerson's specialist teachers!!!

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mrs. Dobbs, Ms. G. and a group of first graders learning how to 'so.' Today's word of the day was 'so.' The students also finished watching the story Jack and the Beanstalk. They then, together as a class, completed a worksheet sequencing the order of events in relation to the story. Be sure to tune in on Friday to see what Mrs. Dobbs will be teaching next!

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mrs. Dobbs and her small group of children practicing the words 'see,' 'it' and 'too.' They each practiced locating a word on the word wall. Then they practiced using those 'words of the week' in sentences. Finally, they put it all together reading a book about seeing animals in the wild. Tune in tomorrow to see what Mrs. Dobbs will be teaching next!

On this week's Episode of Eyewitness... We will feature the beloved teacher, Mrs. Dobbs! Mrs. Dobbs is currently the longest employed CPS staff member we have here at Emerson. We will all be sad to see her go when she retires at the end of this school year🥺 Please tune in throughout the week to see much adored teacher in action!

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mr. Anderson and the kindergarten, first, and second graders hard at work in the music studio! For the past several weeks, these students have been busy learning the lyrics to their spring concert songs. This concert will be held on April 15th. We hope to see you there! Be sure to tune in next week to see which classroom we will be visiting next.

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We find Mr. Anderson and the third and fourth graders learning about a composer of the month. This month, students are learning about Stevie Nicks. Throughout the month, our students will be able to learn the type of music she played, what kind of music she writes, and will be able to listen to some of her records.

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson... We will be visiting with the multi-musically talented Mr. Anderson and Ms. Hirschman! We here at Emerson are lucky enough to not only have one music teacher, but TWO music teachers. Be sure to tune in throughout the week to see what our students will be learning.

The finale of Read Across America: role reversal day!!! Students had fun dressing as their favorite teachers, and teachers had fun reliving their childhoods and dressing like students. Thank you to all those who participated in this fun week. Enjoy your Spring Break!
