Emerson students and families had a BLAST and our first ever GLOW DANCE PARTY! Thanks PTO for sponsoring this fun event, and also Fred Ritter being our awesome DJ.

We find Mrs. Luchsinger wearing many hats (and not just because it's winter 🥶)!
Whether she's checking out library books to students, leading WIN groups, or teaching keyboarding to our 2nd-4th graders, she always does it with a smile.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow for our epic conclusion with Mrs. Luchsinger in the library. 😉

Another day filled with smiling faces and great memories! Today third graders got to spend time with their grandfriends making Valentine artwork and playing a few games.

Emerson students will be coming home with the Sweet Harvest popcorn. We want to thank everyone who supported Emerson and our PTO during this fundraiser.

Another fun day full of memories! Second graders were able to spend some time yesterday with their grandfriends. Each student and their guest were able to "talk and tear" as they created a beautiful piece of artwork together. In the time remaining, students read their grandfriend Valentine's Day books on the Epic app on their iPads. A yummy lunch was enjoyed by all to finish off the day.

We find Mrs. Luchsinger and her students hard at work! This semester, all students are learning about research. First, they learn the difference between fiction and non-fiction and print and digital. Next, they either use a digital source or a print source to find facts they can cite on their research papers. Finally, they put what they've learned together in a project they can present to the class.
First graders researched penguins from a digital source, while second graders researched animals from print sources.
Be sure to tune in throughout the week to see what's happening in Emerson's library!

We will be visiting Mrs. Luchsinger in the library and computer lab! She has a very busy week planned, so be sure to tune in throughout the week to see what great things will be happening!

First graders had a blast today during Grandfriends Day! Each student was able to create Valentine artwork and enjoy lunch and recess with their friend. As you can see by all the smiles, everyone had fun!

We find Mrs. Darveau during her third and first grade Anchor Times classes.
This week, first graders listened to a book about how to be kind. They then filled out a kindness rainbow listing four kind things they can do for others.
In third grade this week, students reviewed the topic of empathy with Mrs. Darveau. Then, in groups, they read ten different scenarios and discussed with their group partners whether or not they felt the empathy was being shown in each of those situations.
Be sure to tune in next week to see which Emerson specialist we will be visiting next!

Due to the police activity in the community, we are postponing Grandfriends Day for Emerson Kindergarten. Please stay tuned for the rescheduled date. Thank you for understanding.

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We find Mrs. Darveau showing us the many roles she plays in our school as a counselor. Not only does she teach weekly Anchor Time classes, but she also co-leads StuCo, is in charge of Emerson's Crusader cart, and she often makes time to work with small groups of students!
Be sure to tune in Friday to see where we will find Mrs. Darveau next!

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We find Mrs. Darveau teaching both fourth grade classes and kindergarten classes.
Fourth graders learned about peer pressure and the five questions to ask yourself if you are in a peer pressure situation.
1. Recognize peer pressure
2. Listen to your inner voice
3. Talk to someone outside the group
4. Imagine your parents can see you
5. Is it worth the risk
Kindergarteners practiced a calming strategy, listened to a story about kindness, and began coloring a kindness calendar. February is kindness month, so this will be an ongoing theme in most of her lessons.
Be sure to tune in throughout the week to see what Mrs. Darveau and our students will be learning next!

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We will be celebrating school counselor's week with Emerson's own counselor, Mrs. Darveau!
The counselors at CPS help students with academic support, social-emotional support, and family support.
Be sure to tune in throughout the week to see our counselor in action!

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We find Mrs. Peterson working with a few of Emerson's kindergarten and first graders. Today, the kindergarteners practiced identifying lowercase letters and blending letter sounds to make words. The first graders also worked on letter sounds, writing vowels, and blending sounds to make words. These students are working very hard to become the best readers they can be!
Tune in next week to see which specialist we will be visiting next!

On today's episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
Today, Mrs. Peterson was able to do some one-on-one progress monitoring with a few Emerson students. When students are progress monitored, they are asked to read some nonsense words, some common words, and perhaps even a short passage. This year, we have a new software program that tracks student data in real time. With her iPad, Mrs. Peterson is able to see each student's ability level based on the results of each test.
Tune in on Friday to see what Mrs. Peterson will be up to next!

Emerson first graders colored pictures that will be attached to meals that are delivered through the Columbus Meals on Wheels program. Thank you Mrs. Warth for connecting us to this wonderful opportunity! We love helping our community!

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We find Mrs. Peterson working some fourth graders. Today they reviewed three types of sentences (declarative, exclamatory, and interrogative), practiced some letter blend sounds, and read a story for comprehension. Such a busy day!
Tune in the rest of the week to see who Mrs. Peterson will be teaching next!

On this week's episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
We've moved on from classroom teachers, to specialist teachers! These teachers are "specialized" in certain subject areas, and focus on meeting the needs of our students.
In the following days, we will be visiting Mrs. Peterson's classroom.
Be sure to tune in to see what great things she does to help our students!

Reminder!
We have our 3rd Quarter PTO meeting tonight, January 27 at 5:30! See you there!

On this episode of Eyewitness Emerson...
It may be cold outside, but the degrees are increasing in Mrs. Janssen's fourth grade class! 45°, 90°, 180°, and even 360°!!! That's right, in math, these students are learning about angles. Today they reviewed what they have learned over the past few weeks before they get ready to take their next data point test.
Be sure to tune in next week where we will begin visiting the specialist teachers at Emerson.
