On Monday, April 15th our 5th grade students will be allowed to purchase a la carte items during lunch. The list of items along with their cost can be found on the front page of the CMS website. Students must have a positive balance in order to charge items. Students may pay for items using their lunch account or may pay with cash. Please visit with your child about purchasing items in advance. I have instructed students to ask their parents for permission before they purchase items. The CMS Student Council raised $450 dollars for Center for Survivors. We used that money to buy needed supplies for the Center at Wal-Mart.
5th grade activity night was Friday, April 5th. 5th graders were able to play dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, Wii dance, ping pong, and snack walk. It was an exciting night full of fun.
40 CMS students attended the UNL Discovering Engineering Day at UNL city campus Union. They went through 4 rotations where they learned about rockets, wind turbines, architectural engineering and software engineering.
Fifth Grade Band Night will be held Thursday, March 28 from 6 pm - 8 pm in the CMS cafeteria. Any 5th grade student interested in band for 6th grade should plan to attend with a parent. It will be an open house format for students to try playing the different instruments and a chance for parents to have questions answered. We hope to see you there.
School will resume tomorrow at 8:00am. We have a Parent Advisory Meeting in the media center at 5:30 tomorrow. Our 6th grade activity night is on Friday from 5:30-7:30. We are still needing some snacks donated and more parent volunteers. Contact the school if you can help.

Congratulations to Vocal Tech on receiving the Clinician’s Choice Awards at the NCDA Vocal Jazz Festival. The clinician said the middle school group sang excellent repertoire with heart, soul, balanced chords and blended voices. Way to Go!

Columbus Middle School will have a noon dismissal tomorrow. We will celebrate success at our pep rallies. 8th--8:00, 7th-- 9:00, 6th--10:00 and 5th--11:00. Students who are not passing or have missing or late work will stay for intervention in the afternoon.

CMS MathCounts practice for Thursday morning, Feb 7, 2019 is CANCELLED - practice has been rescheduled to TUESDAY Feb 12 at the regular time.
8th Grade Boys Basketball
On Monday the 8th grade boys played Kearney Sunrise. The B team won 24-8 with Tyson, Erid, John and Erick each scoring 8 pts. The A team lost 22-43. High scorers of the game were Liam with 9 pts and Brandon with 8pts.
On Tuesday the 8th grade boys played Scotus. the B team lost 23-37 and the A team lost 26-52.
Congratulations to the CMS MathCounts team for earning 1st Place at their competition this past Saturday and qualifying for the state competition. The MathCounts team is comprised of Elijah, Cooper, Kaden and Braylon. Congratulations also goes to Tanner for earning the #1 overall ranking in the Count Down Round and to Elijah for winning the Count Down Round. Individual members include: Carter and Brenyn.
