The USDA Summer Lunch Program will run from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 30-July 26 Monday through Friday at CMS, 2200 26 St. There will be no lunch served on July 4 and 5. The meal is free to all children ages 1-18. Adults accompanying a child may eat for $3.75. All meals meet USDA nutrition standards. The USDA Summer Lunch program serves meals with milk, meat, fruit, vegetables & bread. The USDA Food & Nutrition Service prohibits discrimination on race, color, national origin, age, sex or disability.

Reminder today, Wednesday 22nd is a regular dismissal at 3:30pm. Pep Rally times today are 5th grade 11:00am-12:00pm, 6th grade 9:30am-10:30am, 7th grade 1:25pm-2:25pm, and 8th grade 2:30pm-3:30pm. Tomorrow, Thursday 23rd dismissal is at noon unless your student has work missing.

The Board of Education Meeting scheduled for Monday, May 13th has been cancelled due CHS boys playing in the state championship soccer game. All student recognitions that were planned for this meeting will take place at the next meeting, which is Monday, May 20th.

Attention Youth Track families, because of cold temperatures, the chance for rain, and area schools changing their scheduled events tonight, Youth Track is cancelled for tonight, April 30th. Our next practice will be Monday, May 6th at 6:00 PM. On Monday, we will practice and sign up for events for the upcoming track meets. Move Up Day Reminder - A student orientation day for the incoming 5th grade students is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 from 8:15-2:00 p.m. Students will enter through the east activity doors at 8:15 in the morning. Students will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. from the east activity doors. Please make arrangements for the rides prior to the visit.

Reminder to Parents of 4th Grade Students: There will be an informational meeting for parents of all current CPS 4th grade students the evening of Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. at Columbus Middle School. This meeting is for parents only. We will share valuable middle school information, including the team to which your child is assigned. Please enter through the east activity doors, pick up your packet in the cafeteria, and go to your assigned room. Doors will open at 5:45.

On Monday, April 15th our 5th grade students will be allowed to purchase a la carte items during lunch. The list of items along with their cost can be found on the front page of the CMS website. Students must have a positive balance in order to charge items. Students may pay for items using their lunch account or may pay with cash. Please visit with your child about purchasing items in advance. I have instructed students to ask their parents for permission before they purchase items. If you have questions, please call the school. Thank you!

The CMS Student Council raised $450 dollars for Center for Survivors. We used that money to buy needed supplies for the Center at Wal-Mart.

40 CMS students attended the UNL Discovering Engineering Day at UNL city campus Union. They went through 4 rotations where they learned about rockets, wind turbines, architectural engineering and software engineering.

Fifth Grade Band Night will be held Thursday, March 28 from 6 pm - 8 pm in the CMS cafeteria. Any 5th grade student interested in band for 6th grade should plan to attend with a parent. It will be an open house format for students to try playing the different instruments and a chance for parents to have questions answered. We hope to see you there.

Congratulations to Vocal Tech on receiving the Clinician’s Choice Awards at the NCDA Vocal Jazz Festival. The clinician said the middle school group sang excellent repertoire with heart, soul, balanced chords and blended voices. Way to Go!
