A group of first-graders sit inside a replica teepee at Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Our West Park first-grade students had a great time on their field trip to the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island.

They enjoyed learning about Pawnee family life and the lives of young Pawnee children on the Nebraska plains in the 1840’s. The students began their experience on the open plains outside the Pawnee Earth lodge.

Students also went inside the lodge and a teepee to see how families made
and lived in their homes. Our students learned about the different chores the
Pawnee children did to help their families.

They were able to use tools to grind corn, help set up a teepee, and handle several different artifact tools and utensils. When students were asked what their favorite part of their field trip was many students said touching the bow and arrow and playing with the different toys the
Pawnee children had.
