A group of 7th and 8th grade art students pose with sheets of paper. On those sheets are descriptions of superheroes they'll be drawing.

CMS Art Club students are partnering with selected 5th graders for a special project. School counselor Malia White, along with the 5th-grade teaching staff, selected fifteen 5th-grade students to participate.

The students were asked to complete a simple worksheet created by CMS Art Club and sponsor Megan Graybill.

The worksheet asked students to create a superhero of their choosing, along with listing things such as superpowers, weaknesses, and any other info. The worksheets were collected and randomly distributed to CMS Art Club members.

CMS Art Club is made of eligible 7th and 8th graders who completed a strong application form. CMS Art Club members are now working to make comic books for each one of the 15 superheroes created.

Later this year, when the comic books are done, they will be gifted back to the 5th-grade students. CMS Art Club chose to do this activity because they are able to use their art skills to make connections they may not have otherwise made.

CMS Art Club members also hope that in receiving a comic book about their own superhero, that their 5th-grade counterpart will feel more connectedness with the school.
