New CDC Recommendations for COVID

Recently the CDC has made some changes to the general public for isolation and quarantine guidelines. The FAQ below highlights these changes.

Point of emphasis:

* If vaccinated with a booster and is exposed to positive will not need to quarantine.

  1. Person with positive COVID test; how many days of isolation?
    1. Isolation is 10 days for symptomatic people. If tested positive but have no symptoms after 5 days can return to school/work wearing a mask. Strict mask wearing after returning to school/work.
  2. Unvaccinated person with a direct exposure to a positive person?
    1. Unvaccinated persons must self-quarantine for 5 days. If no symptoms after 5 days, persons may return to school/work followed by 5 days of strict mask wearing. Self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days (isolating and testing if symptoms develop).
  3. Vaccinated person w/o a booster shot with direct exposure to a positive person?
    1. Persons that have been fully vaccinated, but are outside of the 6-month window for booster eligibility (or 2 months for Janssen) must self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms for 5 days. If no symptoms after 5 days, persons may return to school/work followed by 5 days of strict mask wearing. Self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days (isolating and testing if symptoms develop).
  4. Vaccinated and boosted person with direct exposure to a positive person?
    1. Persons that have been fully vaccinated and boosted are not required to quarantine at this time. Exposed persons, regardless of vaccine status, are recommended to wear a mask for at least 10 days after exposure. Self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days (isolating and testing if symptoms develop).
    2. Wearing masks is a critical part of the CDC guidance for days 6-10.
