Thanksgiving Feast

We have much to be thankful for at CMS and have been busy here too.  Ms. Young ad Ms. May’s classes hosted our annual Thanksgiving Feast!

They shopped, prepped, cooked, and served a complete Thanksgiving meal to their classmates, parents, teachers, and their friends from Centennial.  It was a group effort to make this meal and is a favorite activity for students to see past classmates from Centennial as well as show off the skills they have learned in the kitchen.  This activity puts many of the things they have learned into practice.  It is such a yummy way to show our learning!!

The Prize for most creative castle goes to Mr. Schafer's Advisory!

Can castles new to annual collection

Our CMS Student Council hosted a food drive with a fun twist this year.  Each advisory was given the task to create a castle with all the food collected.  The student council voted for the best castles in the following categories:

  •  Best overall castle (Prize = Donuts for that Advisory!)
  • Most Creative (Prize = Candy for that Advisory!)
  • Best per grade level (Prize = Lunch Fast passes divided out over a week)

A prize will also be awarded for Most Items Collected (Prize =Star for team’s banner!)

We had an unbelievable response to this food drive.  We collected a total of 4,383 items which was more than 3,835 pounds of food!  The Platte County Food Pantry was so appreciative of this donation which will help so many families in Columbus.  The most we had ever collected prior to this year was 1000 items.  Our students and their families were so generous.  Our students then had so much fun creating castles from the food that was brought in.  Winners are announced later but here are several to show off our creativity.

Never underestimate the power of middle school kids helping others in need.  They often just need a venue to show their support.  Our students and families showed up in a big way to make a very positive impact on our community!
