Our CMS Choir Students once again raised money for the Holiday Spirit Co-op and Water Wells in Africa. This year’s goal was $20 per student totaling $4,700. Our students once again surpassed the goal and raised about $5000. Ms. Ditter, Ms. Owens, Ms. Haynes, 24 choir students, and 10 parents went to Wal-mart on Dec. 8th to shop for holiday gifts for children on the Holiday Spirit Co-op list. The choir group purchased gifts for approximately 60 children and ensured there was no child’s wish list forgotten this year. The remaining funds will be sent to Water Wells For Africa to purchase a water well.
Over the past 10 years, this group of students has raised over $53,000. CMS choir has purchased an entire water well in Africa that provides water for an entire village. The service project was created to help students learn more about the Discoverer way and be part of something greater than themselves. Ms. Ditter and Ms. Owens are dedicated to this project even though they must put in numerous hours outside of school to make it happen.
The CPS Foundation has also assisted us the last two years with the donations. We are thankful for their partnership as well. What a great opportunity for our students to give back. Many students donate their own babysitting and birthday money to this project. The ability to collectively work together and make a difference is a huge reward.
Because our students met the goal that Ms. Ditter and Ms. Haynes had set they had the opportunity to play water wars as a celebration and then to tape Ms. Ditter and Ms. Haynes to the wall. Ms. Ditter stayed for over a minute. It was a fun time had by all!
