Attention, seniors. Creative Writing Club will meet Mondays from 3:45-5:00 pm in room H209 (Ms. May's) for those interested in joining. Please bring a writing utensil/notebook and a positive attitude!

October 31 is a long time to prepare a speech on "Why is the Veteran Important".  Students interested in competing in the VOICE OF DEMOCRACY Audio Essay COmpetition should stop by the counseling office to pick up an application.  Grand prize is $30,000.   CHS has had several students win in the past - try your talent at a chance for money!!!


Any students who are interested in joining Key Club should plan to attend the meeting on Thursday, September 15 at 7:40 or 3:45 in the Concert Hall. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Soltys.



Students in grades 9-12 have a scholarship opportunity.  If you are seeking an academic challenge and an opportunity to earn college scholarship money, The American Legion High School Oratorical scholarship program is for you.  This constitutional speech contest has the opportunity for students to earn $25,000 to $2,000 in award money at the National Level and $200 - $1,000 at the local level.  See your counselor to get a pamphlet with more information.


The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) is proud to sponsor Believers & Achievers, a state-wide awards program that recognizes Nebraska's future leaders. Those students who have shown a commitment to citizenship, school involvement, and community projects will be honored in the Believers & Achievers program.   

Program/Application items of note:

  • Only members of your Senior Class for the 2022-2023 school year are eligible to be nominated for the Believers & Achievers program.
  • The GPA requirement is 3.50 and one must have participated in an NSAA-sponsored activity to be eligible for nomination.
  • All sections of the application must be completed and the essay must be sent as a PDF with no numbers in the file name (ex:  AshtonHonnorEssay.pdf).
  • Application and essay turned emailed to Mr. Tim Kwapnioski, Director of Athletics/Activities by September 9, 2022 at 4 PM.
  • 3-4 students will be selected by the administration and names will be submitted to the NSAA.  The NSAA will select and honor 48 high school seniors throughout the 2022-23 academic year.

  • As Will Byers has asked ¨can we play dnd now?" well you can! Whether you are a seasoned warrior looking to play or a brand new recruit that wants to learn about the game all are invited to come check out the Dungeons and Dragons Club.   We will be hosting an informational meeting on Tuesday September 6th at 4pm in Mr. McGill's room G135 for any that are interested.   • Attention, seniors. The final round of voting for your class officers needs to be completed by the end of the school day on Tuesday, September 6. You can find the form with the top vote getters from the first round in your building Google classroom.
  • As a reminder, the second general meeting for SkillsUSA is tonight, September 6th, in room H111. This Is for all current or aspiring members looking to learn more about the program. See you tonight at 6:30pm in room H111.

Wednesday, September 7

  • We know you have all had a teacher or educator who has made an impact on your education experience over the years.  Have you ever thought maybe a career in education was something you might be interested in pursuing?  If you have, or just want to know more about the field of education, Educators Rising is for you.  Educators Rising is a student group focused on learning, experiencing, and exploring careers in education as well as being involved in some various service projects focused around educators and education.  Join us on Wednesday, Sept 7 at 7:30 a.m in the High School IMC for the kick-off meeting for CHS Educators Rising.  If you are interested in learning more, but cannot attend, please reach out to Mrs. Fleming, Mrs. Seckel, or your high school guidance counselor. 
  • Sophomore and Junior students: If you enjoy meeting new people and you want to give tours to new CHS students make sure to pick up a student ambassador application from the counseling office.   They are due on the 7th of September to Ms. Seehusen by 4PM.

  • There will be an informational meeting for any junior or senior interested in attending the Spring Close Up trip to Washington, DC on Friday, Sept. 9th in Mr. Coan's room (G137). A short meeting will be held before school (7:45) and after school (3:45). You may attend either meeting. Any questions may be directed to Mr. Coan or Mr. Shea.
  • Sophomore, Junior and Senior students:  If you enjoy helping peers understand academics and often are a go-to person for studying help, please pick up an application to become a STRIVE tutor.   They are due on the 9th of September to Ms. Seehusen by 4PM.
