COLUMBUS, NE- Columbus High School (CHS) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a United States Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program Certificate. In collaboration with Central Community College (CCC), the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL), CHS students will now have additional opportunities to earn credits and a wage while working with a local employer to learn the skills and techniques necessary to be successful. Students eligible for this program must meet the qualifications set forth by CHS, the Nebraska Department of Labor, and local businesses such as Columbus Hydraulics, Valmont and Camaco. Beginning in the 2025-26 school year Columbus High School will offer apprenticeships in Mechatronics and Welding.
Dr. Chip Kay, Superintendent of Columbus Public Schools commented “CHS continues to find ways to be progressive and visionary in supporting the learning and skill development needed for our students. The newest partnership offering certified apprenticeships under the Nebraska Department of Labor will open up even more opportunities for our students whether they become part of the highly-skilled workforce in our community or seek advanced training/learning. This adds a next-level opportunity for the industry in Columbus as well.”
