CHS is excited to announce the hiring of Coach John Riedmiller as the new head coach of the Discoverers baseball program.  Coach Riedmiller takes over for Coach Jimmy Johnson who is resigning his coaching responsibilities at the end of the season to spend more time with his busy family.

John began his coaching career at Stanton Community Schools in 2016 where he taught special education and coached football and basketball.  In 2017, Coach Riedmiller joined CPS as a social studies/writing teacher at Columbus Middle School and currently serves as the head junior varsity baseball coach.  In addition to these responsibilities Coach Riedmiller is an assistant varsity football coach as well as the co-head CHS powerlifting coach.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome John Riedmiller as the new CHS head baseball coach.   John retains the poise and aptitude necessary to continue a successful energy for CHS
Baseball.  Coach Riedmiller will instill a level of genuine competitiveness and put in the work
necessary to reap the rewards,” Director of CHS Athletics and Activities Tim Kwapnioski said.
“Over the years Discoverer baseball has had a positive history of pride and achievement. We
believe John has the necessary skills to carry on this tradition.”

From Coach Riedmiller:
"I am excited that I will be taking on the role of head coach for the Columbus High baseball team.
After spending the last 6 seasons coaching the JV team, I feel like I am ready to make the jump
to Varsity. Coach Johnson has been a great mentor to me for many years. He has done many
great things for this program and I plan to continue to build on the success that he brought to
this team. I am grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me and I can not wait to get to
work. Go, Discoverers."

John is a 2012 graduate of Columbus High School. He received his undergraduate degree from
Midland University and a Masters in Education from Peru State College.
