Dear Parents and Guardians of Columbus Public Schools,

At Columbus Public Schools, YOU are essential to our district’s success. Your involvement and support not only enhance education but also foster a strong sense of community pride. As parents and guardians, your role is pivotal in shaping the educational experiences and outcomes of our students.

The Vital Role of Parents in Our Community

Parents and guardians play a crucial role in the vitality and success of our school district. Your support extends beyond the classroom, influencing the community, current students, and the overall reputation of CPS. By participating in events such as our Community Meetings, Parent Resources Presentations, attending parent-teacher conferences, and engaging in outreach programs like our Parent Teacher Organizations, Booster Clubs and CPS Foundation, you help build a vibrant and supportive network that benefits everyone involved.

Your active participation strengthens relationships among our stakeholders—teachers, fellow parents, and local businesses—creating a unified support system that enhances the educational environment for our students.

Inspiring Future Generations

CPS parents and guardians serve as role models, demonstrating the long-term value of education through your support and involvement. Your dedication inspires current students to set and pursue their own goals, whether in higher education, the military, vocational paths, or other endeavors.

Additionally, your involvement provides mentorship opportunities, volunteer support, and community partnerships, directly connecting students with the resources and support they need to succeed.

District Completes New Strategic Plan

After seven months of comprehensive data gathering, collaborative meetings, and thorough analysis, the School Board has approved a new strategic plan to guide Columbus Public Schools through 2029. This plan identifies four strategic priorities along with focused goals that will steer our district toward continued excellence.

Strategic Priorities:

  1. Academic Excellence

  2. Student Well-Being

  3. Operational Efficiency

  4. Community Engagement

These priorities will be highlighted in all board meetings, district and building meetings, and any initiatives requiring fiscal investment, ensuring a unified and transparent approach to our goals.

Addressing Community Growth: A Collaborative Effort

Community Meeting on Growth - November 6th

On November 6th, Columbus Public Schools held a community meeting to address the capacity and enrollment challenges facing our elementary schools. The agenda included:

  • Review of Current Enrollment Data

  • Ongoing Residential and Commercial Projects

  • Projections for Future Enrollment

  • Potential Solutions to Accommodate Growth

Key Highlights:

  • Projected Enrollment Increase: CPS expects an additional 640 students in K-4 over the next three years, bringing our total enrollment to 4,745. This growth is attributed to large single-family residential developments adding 800 doors to our community.

  • Capacity Solutions:

    • Option A: Changing school boundaries without expansion.

    • Option B: Expanding existing schools.

    • Option C: Constructing a new elementary school.

  • Collaborative Approach: Emphasizing teamwork, the discussion focused on exploring potential solutions and programming enhancements to manage growth effectively. With the Middle School currently at capacity, additional discussions will include research on a combined K-8 solution.

Your Input Matters

As we navigate this growth, your input is invaluable. We encourage parents and guardians to participate in upcoming forums and provide feedback to help shape the future of our schools. Together, we can ensure that CPS continues to provide a high-quality education to all our students.

CPS: A Cost-Effective Education

Comparing Costs Per Student

CPS maintains a cost per student of $9,519, which is significantly lower than the state average of $11,419. This efficient allocation places CPS 235th out of 244 districts in spending per student. Our commitment is to continue providing excellent education while managing resources wisely to benefit our students and community.

Thank You for Your Continued Support

I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing involvement and contributions. Your support ensures that future generations receive the best possible educational experiences, laying the foundation for their success and the prosperity of our community

At Columbus Public Schools, our strength lies in the collaboration between parents, educators, and the community. Your active participation and unwavering support are the cornerstones of our district’s success. Together, we can create an environment where every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.

Thank you for your dedication and partnership in making CPS a place of excellence and opportunity for all our students.
