At 1:30am Law Enforcement contacted Columbus Public Schools regarding a student who had made a social media post as a "joke" that included a threat.  A student has been cited by law enforcement and three have been suspended from school. CPS continues to investigate and review other leads from safe2help and social media activity.

It has been determined that Columbus High School and Columbus Middle School students' backpacks, duffle bags, sling bags, or similar items may be searched at random throughout the school day.  There will also be additional law enforcement on both campuses.  Administration will meet this morning to determine if additional restrictions are necessary to provide a safe environment for our students and staff.

We appreciate everyone's willingness to use safe2help and the district's partnership with law enforcement.

We want to remind parents and students - any association with this type of activity, whether it is a joke or legitimate, will result in a suspension and possible expulsion from Columbus Public Schools.  Law enforcement will also be involved.
