Elementary students from across Columbus Public Schools flocked to West Park in early July to participate in this year's summer school session. One-hundred and sixty-two students signed up for the 3-week session that ends July 26th.

“Our focus is reading and math,” West Park Principal Paula Lawrence said. “Teachers review end-of-year skills and start to introduce beginning-of-the-next-grade-level skills.”

Staffed by dedicated CPS teachers and paraprofessionals, the program provides extended learning opportunities, including engaging research projects and access to the library and its resources. Students were able to take advantage of grab-and-go lunches, featuring hot entrees like cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and tacos, along with fruits, vegetables and milk.

Transportation was provided from various pick-up and drop-off sites across Columbus, most of which are located at elementary school buildings, ensuring accessibility for all students.

Lawrence expressed her gratitude for the staff’s dedication. “We have a great group of people who give part of their summer to work with our kids. They are a group of very dedicated, positive, and talented people. I am thankful for getting to work with them during the month of July.”

The summer school program at Columbus Public Schools continues to foster academic growth and community spirit, making it a highlight for students and families each summer.
